The HHS Office for Civil Rights and Office of the National Coordinator for HIT have released new model notices of privacy practices for providers and payers.

Available in three formats each, the federally developed notices comes shortly before the Sept. 23 compliance date for strengthened HIPAA privacy, security, breach notification and enforcement rules, as well as the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act.

The notices reflect recent regulatory changes in the privacy and security rules, and serve as a baseline for covered entities to comply with the new requirements, according to the agencies. Covered entities can enter their own information into the notices, such as contact information.
