The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, which certifies entities that process transactions or exchange health information for meeting best practices, has developed two new electronic prescribing programs.

The industry-sponsored organization has rolled out electronic prescription of controlled substances certification programs for software vendors offering applicable applications such as pharmacy information systems and e-prescribing.

The programs are designed to demonstrate compliance with Drug Enforcement Administration regulations and EHNAC standards for privacy/security, technical performance, business practices and resources.

EHNAC’s other certification programs cover health information exchanges, electronic prescribing, financial services, claims clearinghouses, value added networks, medical billers, payer-owned electronic health networks, third-party administrators, management service organizations and outsourced services such as remote hosting.
