Health information exchanges or HIE vendors have announced new contracts or milestones in recent days:

* Tampa General Hospital will use the HIE platform of McKesson Corp.’s RelayHealth division across its enterprise. The hospital also will link to outside providers, particularly University of South Florida Health, with which it shares up to 40 percent of its patients. Tampa General’s next HIE initiative will be connecting to the Tampa Bay Regional Health Information Organization, says Elizabeth Lindsay-Wood, senior vice president and CIO.

* All six hospitals in northern Colorado have now linked to the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization. The facilities, all affiliated with either Banner Health or University of Colorado Hospital, are East Morgan County Hospital in Brush, McKee Medical Center in Loveland, North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Sterling Regional MedCenter in Sterling, Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins and Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

* The Upper Peninsula Health Information Exchange in Michigan will use the HIE platform of Informatics Corporation of America, or ICA. The rural HIE covers about 16,400 square miles with more than 900 medical and ancillary providers serving 300,000 residents. Hospitals and ambulatory care centers will be initial participants.

* Five-hospital delivery system Inova will be the first organization to go live on ConnectVirginia, the statewide health information exchange. Inova expects to be in production status with the HIE by the end of 2012.
