Encore Health Resources, a Houston-based health information technology consulting firm, has launched a new health analytics consulting practice to help organizations design and implement their analytics strategies.

Veteran consultant Randy Thomas has joined Encore to lead the practice, which will offer a “Smart Skinny Data” strategy--in contrast to the “Big Data” wave--that will capture precise information from multiple systems and sources and focus on what actually needs to be analyzed at any given time as an organization moves through various processes to comply with new value-based treatment and payment models. The goal is to avoid capturing massive amounts of data without proper governance of the data.

Thomas comes to Encore from Premier Inc., where she served as vice president of portfolio strategy and design and redesigned the analytics portfolio. She previously was a fellow in the IBM Center for Healthcare Management and before that a consultant at Healthlink, which IBM acquired.

A new white paper on Encore’s approach to analytics is available here.
