Network Firm Acquires HIE Technology
Smartronix Inc., an information technology network development and management vendor serving multiple industries, has acquired health information exchange vendor Cogon Systems Inc. to increase its presence in the health care sector. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Hollywood, Md.-based Smartronix specializes in network operations, enterprise software application development and cyber-security. The Air Force has been a major health care client. Now, the company through Pensacola, Fla.-based Cogon will have access to additional government and local health care organizations.
Cogon sells an HIE platform called the Virtual Health Network. The company also provides systems development and implementation services, and business, operational and policy consulting services. Cogon CEO Huy Nguyen, M.D., will continue to lead the company as a subsidiary of Smartronix.
