Farzad Mostashari, M.D., former national coordinator for health information technology, has joined the Brookings Institution in Washington.

Mostashari will serve as a Visiting Fellow at Brookings’ Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform. He will continue to work on improving care and outcomes using health information technology, with a special focus on developing innovative payment models that better support small practices, according to the institution.

He’ll also work to expand the reach of the Accountable Care Organization Learning Center, an initiative Brookings is doing with Dartmouth. In a recent interview with Health Data Management, Mostashari said he was leaving his government post to spend more time with his family and reflected on his four years at ONC, about half that time as the national coordinator.
