The Mississippi State Department of Health has launched "Your Personal Sexual Health," a free mobile app available for both Apple iOS and Android devices.

Department officials said the app is "the first app in the nation that not only promotes safer sexual health, but also provides the tools for effective HIV/STD testing and prevention."

The app allows users to determine their HIV risk level, find HIV/STD testing and treatment, receive free condoms, and send anonymous “get tested” messages. Other features include AIDS hotline direct calling, myths and facts about HIV/STDs, and prevention tips.

“This app really gives Mississippi an edge on sexual health knowledge and action,” said MSDH State Epidemiologist Thomas Dobbs, M.D. “It’s a convenient way to get the answers to the questions you’ve always had but maybe didn’t feel comfortable asking.”

According to the 2012 National HIV Surveillance Report, Mississippi has the 10th highest rate of HIV infection in the United States. In 2013, there were 556 new reports of HIV infection in Mississippi.
