The Houston, Texas-based Memorial Hermann Physician Network will deploy the Docbook Enterprise HIPAA-secure mobile communications technology developed by DocbookMD, Austin.

The deployment will be in a phased rollout, with an initial deployment of 1,800 Memorial Hermann physicians receiving the technology, followed shortly thereafter by another 2,000. In addition, non-Memorial Hermann physicians in the Houston area who are members of the Texas Medical Association may use the Docbook platform to communicate with their MHMD colleagues.

The physician-run company recently signed an agreement with the California Medical Association to become the CMA's preferred secure messaging provider for its 39,000 members. The company says its technology is available to all physicians who are members of their state medical societies in 41 states.

DocbookMD says its technology helps physicians, hospitals and groups exchange patient-related messages including images directly from the point of care; find and quickly communicate with healthcare professionals in the community by name or specialty; expedite urgent X-ray reports from radiology; receive urgent notifications and answering service messages directly to their smartphone; and coordinate care across the health system.
