Medical device manufacturer Medtronic has notified 2,764 patients after a box of training records went missing at a facility in Minnesota.
The company believes the box, containing contact information, insurance information, limited patient records and possibly some Social Security numbers, is misplaced and still in the facility, although the possibility exists that it is gone, a spokesperson told the Pioneer Press in the Twin Cities.
The information was used for training on using insulin pumps and certain glucose monitoring devices. Medtronic is offering affected patients paid identity protection services. A spokesperson did not respond to a Health Data Management request for more information. Organizations experiencing a large breach are required only to notify local media.
