MedAssets-Precyse expands analytics presence with Equation buy

Purchase enables vendor to offer cloud platform for analysis of revenue cycle, HIM issues.

MedAssets-Precyse is acquiring Equation, an analytics support company based in Layton, Utah.

Equation offers financial and clinical analytics and consulting services. Terms of the acquisition by MedAssets-Precyse were not disclosed.

Equation’s cloud-based platform integrates with disparate information systems to support enterprisewide analytics covering clinical quality, service and affordability issues for healthcare organizations of every size, as well as supporting value-based reimbursement programs.

The purchase of Equation builds the exposure of MedAssets-Precyse within the health IT industry. In January, Pamplona Capital Management paid $2.7 billion for MedAssets, a revenue cycle management vendor, combining it with health information management vendor Precyse, which the investment firm already owned.

The goal was to create a single company with coding services, computer-assisted coding software, clinical documentation improvement services, patient identity management, and HIM expertise from Precyse, along with collections, contract management, charge capture, denials management, RAC audits and appeals, a claims clearinghouse, and analytics for managing accounts receivables and insurance contracts from MedAssets.
