McKesson Corp. is expanding a program launched in November 2012 to give away $1 million in licenses for ambulatory software in practices providing charity care in regions with high poverty levels.

The program initially offered free 26-month licenses for the Web-based Practice Choice software to 100 physicians in 10 cities: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Newark, Philadelphia and St. Louis. The Stage 1-certified software generally costs $399 per physician per month.

However, the vendor still has 90 free licenses available, so has expanded the giveaway to qualified physicians across the nation. Information on the criteria and an application is available here.
