Business intelligence vendors QlikTech, Tableau and Dimensional Insight rank high in ease of use among health care users, according to vendor research firm KLAS Enterprises. But for extensive insights, SAS is at the top although most of its users are very advanced.

That’s one of many takeaways from a new KLAS report, “Healthcare Analytics: Making Sense of the Puzzle Pieces,” which is based on interviews with more than 400 providers and mentions 30 vendors.

Top satisfaction ratings in four categories of BI products go to Dimensional Insight (BI tool sets), QlikTech (visual data discovery), Health Catalyst (data warehouse/enterprise data warehousing), and SAS (predictive analytics).

For supporting accountable care organizations, Oracle and Information Builders stand out, according to KLAS. But in overall performance for health care providers, the firm finds heavyweights SAP, Microsoft and Oracle lagging, “dragged down by system complexity.”

In the report, KLAS formally ranks seven vendors: QlikTech at the top followed by Dimensional Insight, IBM, McKesson, Information Builders, Microsoft and SAP, with significant distance in overall satisfaction between the first two and the last five.

The report, which also examines the analytics tools of electronic health records vendors, is available at klasresearch.com/reports. The cost is $980 for providers and $13,980 for others.
