JFK Health chooses Nuance approach on secure printing

In other implementations, Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital moves to Meditech’s new EHR.

Here is Health Data Management’s weekly roundup of health information technology contracts and go-lives:
  • JFK Health in Edison, N.J., has gone live on a number of secure print management modules from Nuance Communications. The applications support a rules engine to manage and monitor printing while also eliminating about 50 devices from its printing fleet of 500, cutting printing costs while increasing security. The software further identifies when print volumes are spiking to trigger re-routing of jobs to the JFK print shop, saving money. Reporting modules track who has printed documents and what they printed to better control costs and security.
  • Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital in Springfield, Ohio, will implement Meditech’s Web Acute Electronic Health Record in early 2018. During vendor selection, the hospital asked each suitor three core questions, says CIO Craig Terrell. “Tell us what your system was like three years ago, tell us where it is today, and tell us where you are going.” The hospital wants a more automated process for entering data. Currently, data is entered multiple times in different systems, leading to duplicate data entry and time-consuming pre-registration, surgery and discharge processes. Terrell also anticipates that the move to Meditech will eliminate workarounds.

  • University of Toledo Physicians is live on software from PatientKeeper to streamline inpatient professional charge capture at the practice and affiliated skilled nursing facilities. The organization of 280 physicians and 70 advanced practice professionals initially will focus on the hospitalist, geriatrics and surgery departments, and then expand to more departments and clinic locations. The practice is affiliated with University of Toledo Medical Center.
  • Carolinas Healthcare System will implement Cerner’s HealtheIntent population health management module to support the existing Cerner electronic health record system and will extend remote hosting capabilities. “As the healthcare industry transitions into value-based care, the ability to consume all data whether it originates from our own or our affiliates’ electronic medical records, social determinants of the patient, self-reported data or from any source becomes invaluable,” says Craig Richardville, CIO and analytics officer. The new contract also includes an enterprise data warehouse, a registry with scorecards to identify gaps in care and recommend interventions, and a care management module to identify, stratify and prioritize individuals for services.
  • Houston Eye Associates has gone live on the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) product of Workspot. VDI is the process of running an end user desktop inside a virtual machine that is on a server in the data center. The technology, according to the vendor, simplifies IT operations to offer data and application delivery from any device in any location in the cloud or on the premises, providing a turnkey solution for remote workers to improve workplace efficiency.
