Fairfax, Va.-based mindSHIFT Technologies, a major provider of information technology services to small- and mid-size organizations across multiple industries, has acquired Alpheon Corp., which offers similar services for a client base heavy with physician practices of five or more providers. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

While mindSHIFT has a handful of health care clients, "this is definitely a launch point into the industry," says Alpheon CEO Greg Donovan. The Morrisville, N.C.-based firm will form the base of mindSHIFT's new health care division.

Alpheon's services include information systems implementations, including electronic health records, practice management and other health applications for physician practices, which comprise about 65 percent of its business. Other services include technical support, remote infrastructure monitoring, management and maintenance, security services and Voice over IP technology. Donovan declines to disclose the number of health care clients at Alpheon, which formed in 2002.

More information is available at alpheon.com and mindshift.com.
