The Office of the National Coordinator for HIT has released the first wave of draft test procedures (or scripts) and applicable test data files for the 2014 Edition of the electronic health records certification program.

Released on Sept. 7 and available here, the procedures cover a dozen meaningful use criteria: CPOE, vital signs/body mass index/growth charts, problem list, medication list, medication allergy list, drug formulary checks, smoking status, patient-specific education resources, advanced directives for inpatient settings, automatic log-off, integrity and accounting of disclosures.

EHR certification testing laboratories and certification bodies will use the test procedures to evaluate conformance and functionality of EHRs and EHR Modules against adopted standards, implementation specifications and certification criteria. Each wave of procedures and test files, coming out in September and October, will have a two-week comment period. ONC anticipates the final set of test procedures to be available in early 2013.
