Indiana agency picks Cerner for 6 state-run psych facilities

In other implementations, Cody Regional Health chooses Plexus Technology anesthesia system.

Here is Health Data Management’s weekly roundup of new health IT contract wins and go-lives:

* The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration has selected Cerner to implement its electronic health record system across six state-run psychiatric facilities. Clinicians will have a single electronic record of their patients’ health history as well as having access to financial data. Patient families will receive messaging apps to communicate with hospital staff and to access health history through a patient portal. “Deploying Cerner’s integrated health care solution will help us connect and optimize Indiana’s network of state psychiatric hospitals, along with interfaces to other providers along Indiana’s mental health continuum,” says Kevin Moore, director at the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction.

* Cody (Wyo.) Regional Health, which is transitioning from paper records for documentation of anesthesia procedures, has selected Plexus Technology Group as its vendor for an electronic anesthesia record. The hospital will integrate the system with the Meditech electronic health record to streamline documentation and improve perioperative workflow. Clinicians will have access to scheduling data, patient demographics, lab results and physiological data from a single source within the EHR.

* American Addiction Centers, which operates 30 treatment facilities across the nation, will implement monitoring software from EarlySense to receive real-time data that can identify irregular vital signs in patients going through drug detoxification, which is the drug withdrawal process. The monitoring system uses a sensor placed under the mattress to continuously track the patient’s heart rate, breathing patterns and movements. Detected worrisome changes in the patient’s condition will generate a real-time alert to the central nursing station and to nurses’ mobile computing devices.

* The Department of Veteran Affairs division in San Diego has gone live on use of the LiveData perioperative management system in all eight operating rooms. The system integrates patient information and perioperative case workflow to improve clinical communications and coordination. The San Diego facility has 296 beds and operates regional referral programs that include cardiovascular surgery and spinal cord injury, among other services.

* Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey has bought the Biograph Horizon PET/CT imaging technology from Siemens. The product will help physicians detect disease sooner, determine treatment efficacy and limit side effects. Doctors will be able to identify the smallest of lesions earlier, which will support a more accurate diagnosis, personalized treatment and improved outcomes, according to Sean Pierce, MD, chair of the radiology department.

* Arkansas Children’s Hospital has expanded its existing relationship with data security firm CynergisTek by adopting the vendor’s Compliance Assist Partner Program, or CAAP. The program includes an annual risk assessment, advisory services to help the hospital maintain a proactive risk management program, and periodic reviews to ensure that remediation program-building remains on track.
