Humana on Board with Blue Button Data Exchange

Health insurer Humana Inc. now is supporting the federally designed Blue Button technology to enable members to access their health and claims records held by the payer.

Getting the records via the MyHumana.com Web site enables members to better understand and track their health benefits and validate bills, manage their care, identify issues they wish to discuss with their physician and share the payer-based medical history, according to Humana.

Adoption of Blue Button is the latest step in a Humana initiative to better support health information exchange as it reaches out to engage members and expand into the provider market by acquiring clinics. The insurer a year ago acquired Certify Data Systems, vendor of the HealthLogix HIE platform.
