The 222-bed hospital selected the application believing no other system could be implemented fast enough to qualify for first-year incentive payments in 2011 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, says Paul Hensler, CIO. The hospital expects incentives will pay for the system in total.
OpenVista is a commercialized version of the VistA electronic health records system of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Medsphere changed its business model in May 2008 by releasing the source code and other components on the open source market. The company now generates revenue through support and expertise rather than software license fees.
