HIMSS, ASC to Partner on EDI Issues

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and Accredited Standards Committee X12 will collaborate on electronic data interchange education and training initiatives.
Workgroups of the X12N insurance subcommittee create and maintain the HIPAA administrative and financial transactions, including the new Version 5010 transaction set that becomes effective in January 2012. Implementation of 5010 is a precursor of the new ICD-10 code sets that are effective in October 2013.
Initially in the collaboration, X12N representatives will participate in the Medical Banking Institute and the Medical Banking Boot Camp, both during HIMSS' annual conference in February. The organizations expect to work together on educational materials, additional conference presentations, Web seminars, white papers, articles and reports.
