Content publisher Hearst Corporation has consolidated its health care software and guidance companies under a new business unit called Hearst Health.

Vendors in the new unit include First Databank (drug reference databases), Zynx Health (clinical decision support), MCG Milliman Care Guidelines (medical treatment necessity guidelines for payers and hospitals), Homecare Homebase (home health & hospice software), and Map of Medicine (international Web program to help physicians plan and benchmark their clinical practice against national standards).
Hearst Health also includes a vendor capital unit to invest in technology start-ups with the first investment in CareInSync (managing care transitions via mobile devices), and an innovation laboratory. Gregory Dorn, M.D., an executive vice president of Hearst Business Media, will oversee Hearst Health.
