At least four health information technology acquisitions were announced in recent days leading to the official start of the HIMSS15 Conference on Monday.

Audit and consulting firm KPMG has acquired veteran consultancy Beacon Partners for an undisclosed sum. Beacon offers strategic management, clinical performance and information technology advisory services to a wide range of providers. The company brings to KPMG more skills in such areas as provider business applications, electronic health records, revenue cycle, accountable care development and analytics.

Ralph Fargnoli, president and CEO at Beacon, will become a managing director in KPMG’s management consulting-technical enablement unit. The acquisition follows two other recent KPMG buys in the health IT space—Zanett Commercial Solutions, a technical consultancy; and Cynergy Systems, which helps organizations enhance their web, mobile and other digital services.

In another acquisition, hospital revenue cycle management vendor SSI Group will acquire Provider Advantage NW, which sells patient payment software. Terms of the deal, expected to close within a month, were not disclosed. Provider Advantage’s products enable hospitals to estimate patient balances during pre-registration or at the point of service to increase the speed of collections.

Also, Quality Systems Inc. has bought healthcare data analytics vendor Gennius and will pair the firm with its NextGen ambulatory and small hospital software line and Mirth health information exchange services. Terms were not disclosed. Gennius focuses on analyzing value-based care processes such as payer contract requirements, population health and accountable care community performance. It also supports computing and submitting measures for a variety of quality reporting programs.

In addition, Patient Bond—a vendor of patient and member engagement software—has bought c2b Horizons, which sells consumer profiling software for providers and insurers. Such profiling can help increase patient-member engagement by identifying individual preferences and customizing content. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
