The laboratories of five academic or commercial health care organizations are launching GeneInsight Network, a collaborative to share clinical genomic data.

Founding members of the network will serve as initial pilot sites for deployment of an information technology platform that combines the MiSeq sequencing technology of Illumina, which builds systems to analyze genetic variations and functions; and the GeneInsight Suite of Partners HealthCare System that supports interpretation and reporting of genetic tests across multiple diagnostic reference laboratories.

Illumina and Partners in September 2012 announced an alliance to build the network and bring together a broader community of clinical laboratories. Other founding members of the new network include ARUP Laboratories, Mount Sinai Genetic Testing Laboratory and New York Genome Center.

Following pilot tests, the network will open during 2013 to other organizations willing to share clinical genomic data.
