The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has released a video game to train health care providers and staff members on contingency planning to secure protected health information.

The game follows an earlier release of a video game to train on basic privacy and security issues. The new game, “CyberSecure: Your Medical Practice,” covers various components of a contingency plan, which is required under the HIPAA security rule.

Players of the contingency planning game are confronted with privacy and security challenges often found in a small practice. Choosing the right responses earns points and the practice flourishes. Wrong decisions trigger floods, server outages, fires and other disasters related to the lack of contingency planning.

Both games are available here.
