The federally hosted 4th annual Safeguarding Health Information: Building Assurance Through HIPAA Security" conference, May 10-11 in Washington, is an opportunity for industry stakeholders to talk with federal officials responsible for enforcing the HIPAA privacy, security, breach notification and enforcement rules.

The HHS Office of Civil Rights and the National Institute of Standards and Technology co-host the conference.  The setting at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center is an easy walk to the White House.

Sessions from regulators, health information technology vendors and security firms will cover regulatory updates, a preliminary privacy report from the Federal Trade Commission, a national strategy for trusted identities in cyberspace, security awareness in large delivery systems, security in health information exchange and regional extension center environments, identity proofing, mobile device security, and automated security applications in health I.T. And that's just the first day.

The conference earmarks considerable time for debate between attendees and regulators, which is particularly important, as the final rules to secure health information remain unpublished. For more information, click here.
