Revenue cycle management software vendor and claims clearinghouse Emdeon Inc. has acquired Chapin Revenue Cycle Management LLC for $16.2 million in cash and $2.7 million in stock. Nashville, Tenn.-based Emdeon could pay up to $8.1 million more based on financial performance benchmarks through 2012.

Tampa, Fla.-based Chapin provides outsourced hospital revenue cycle management services combined with proprietary software to calculate reimbursement amounts from all types of payer contract arrangements. The outsourced services include accounts receivable management, medical denials, appeals and collection improvement.
