Chicago-based Allscripts has closed its acquisition of Atlanta-based Eclipsys Corp. bringing together two significant vendors serving the ambulatory and inpatient environments.

Together, the combined company, carrying the Allscripts name, has more than 5,500 employees and had pro forma 2009 revenue of about $1.2 billion. Its client base includes 180,000 physicians, 1,500 hospitals, and 10,000 nursing homes, home care agencies and other post-acute care organizations, according to the company.
