National electronic prescribing network operator Surescripts has certified the Web-based Meds4IHR application of Culver City, Calif.-based 4medica for transmission of new and renewal prescriptions to pharmacies via the network.
The e-prescribing application includes drug-to-laboratory values checking of prescriptions in addition to drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy interactions at the time of prescribing, according to the vendor. Linked to 4medica's laboratory system, the drug-to-lab checking becomes real-time after medication has been prescribed, as the system detects and alerts physicians of changes in lab values that may pose a safety issue for patients on certain medications.
