Main Line Health, a delivery system anchored with four acute care hospitals serving suburban Philadelphia, is offering up-front funding to help affiliated physicians adopt a suite of information technology applications.

Main Line initially has purchased 150 licenses from eClinicalWorks Inc., Westborough, Mass. Affiliated physicians are offered the vendor's applications covering integrated practice management/electronic health records, patient portal, clinical and financial analytics, mobile access, physician-to-physician communications, and physician-to-patient secure messaging for appointment reminders, statements and lab/diagnostic imaging results.

A fast-track implementation program is designed to bring practices live in less than 12 weeks; the first practice went live in less than 11. Under the physician assistance program, Main Line Health pays license fees up-front, arranges initial training and builds interfaces. Providers pay the delivery system for initial training and repay the licenses if they receive EHR meaningful use incentive payments.
