Cybersecurity Command Center offers real-world security info
The Cybersecurity Command Center, one of the featured exhibits during HIMSS18 in Las Vegas, is intended to provide a real-world grounding in some of the threats facing healthcare organizations, as well as a sampling of the best defenses against cybercrime.
The security education area is intended to give attendees a chance to better understand the types of threats that healthcare organizations are facing; what vulnerabilities they may be facing; and what tools, techniques and best practices can help thwart attacks.
Increased awareness is essential, cybersecurity experts say, as hackers have started targeting smaller healthcare organizations, which typically are not as well defended as large healthcare organizations or payers. Thus, hackers have moved away from large targets, such as Anthem (which suffered a data breach in 2015) and moved on to smaller hospitals, group practices or business associates.
The Command Center has doubled in size for 2018 from the previous year, with 70 companies exhibiting cyber defense tools and security expert imparting wisdom, a series of interactive challenges such as testing your Cyber Risk IQ, and more than 60 educational sessions.
Eight security firms are participating in the Command Center. CrowdStrike, for instance, is inviting visitors to take its Security Health Check to test skills and knowledge of endpoint security best practices. Each of the other seven vendors—Clearwater Compliance, Cylance, FairWarning, Proofpoint, Sophos, Symantec and Trend Micro—also are offering skills tests.
The Cybersecurity Command Center is on level 2, Veronese 2501A and Titian 2301A, and on the exhibit floor in Booth 8500-8600. HIMSS18 also offers a series of educational sessions throughout the conference focusing on security issues.
