Contractor Vangent Gets Federal HIX Business

Vangent Inc., a unit of government contractor General Dynamics, will build and operate call centers to help consumers purchase health insurance through state-based health information exchanges built in part or entirely by the federal government.

The contract is valued at $28.2 million for 1 year and can annually be renewed up to nine more years based on performance. Arlington, Va.-based Vangent will build a center that support receiving and responding to consumer inquiries via telephone, postal or e-mail, Web chat, fax and TDD/TTY phone capabilities for disabled individuals. The call center also will support other consumer-oriented programs such as the 1-800-Medicare phone line.

The federal government will partner to build an insurance exchange in seven states and build and operate the entire exchange in 27 states.
