The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $8.5 million to help 85 community health centers in Beacon Communities adopt health information technology.

The HITECH Act funded development of 17 Beacon Communities to accelerate and demonstrate the benefits of health information technology. The new I.T. funds for community health centers in 15 Beacon Communities come through the Health Resources and Services Administration under the Affordable Care Act.

The funds are intended to ensure the community health centers are able participate in I.T.-supported communitywide health care improvement initiatives.
