Two health information technology vendors serving the post-acute care market have merged to better serve long-term care, skilled nursing, independent and assisted living, and drug rehabilitation facilities.

Layton, Utah-based BlueStep Systems provides care and medication management, patient portal and electronic health records software in the post-acute market. Its products also support business operations such as marketing, coordinating community activities, facility maintenance, human resources, staff scheduling, and time & attendance. Jacksonville, Fla.-based BridgeGate Health is a health information exchange platform vendor linking long-term care facilities with each other with other providers to better coordinate care.

The company will operate out of existing offices under the name BlueStep/BridgeGate Health for several months until it unveils a new name. Tom Bang, CEO at Blue Step, will lead the new company. Bang is an industry veteran who has served at MediTROL, A-Life Medical, American Hospital Supply, Baxter International and Pyxis Corp.
