John Glaser is leaving his 15-year CIO post at Partners HealthCare System in Boston to become CEO of Siemens' global health care information technology business, called the Health Services Business Unit.

He will start on August 16, leading a workforce of 4,500 and responsible for product development, strategy, portfolio management, financial performance and customer satisfaction.

At Partners, Glaser has directed I.T. operations for 10 hospitals, 7,000 physicians and 45,000 employees, including 1,300 I.T. professionals. He recently served a temporary government assignment as a senior advisor to David Blumenthal, M.D., national coordinator for health information technology. He has served as president of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and founding chair of the College of Health Information Management Executives, and is a winner of CHIME's CIO of the Year Award.
