Caradigm, a joint venture company of Microsoft and  GE Healthcare, will discontinue marketing its health information exchange software and will resell under a private label the HIE platform of Orion Health.

The alliance will enable Caradigm to integrate mature HIE technology with its Caradigm Intelligence Platform (Amalga) suite of data aggregation/analytics software, to serve accountable care organizations and providers migrating to other value-based treatment and delivery models who need intelligence gained from clinical, financial and operational data to better manage patient populations and cost efficiencies.  The companies expect the integrated product to be commercially available within 120 days.

Both companies will develop additional software for the combined product, with decision support, quality improvement measurement and population health management applications expected this year.

Caradigm will continue to support current users of its HIE technology but will only market the private-label Orion product. Orion Health’s HIE product includes an integration engine, clinical data repository, clinician and patient portals, a “lite” electronic health record, case management tools and secure messaging using the Direct Project protocols.

Under the vendors’ new alliance, Orion Health will promote Caradigm’s analytics products in the United States and will resell them in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and other mutually agreed to countries. Orion Health also will resell Caradigm’s identity and access management software internationally, excluding China, North America and parts of the Middle East. This software suite includes user provisioning, single-sign-on and context management applications.
