Hospital electronic health records vendor Medsphere Systems Corp. has introduced a "Stimulus ROI Calculator" to estimate meaningful use incentives a facility can expect and the date of a return on investment for implementing the company's EHR.

The calculator estimates a hospital's five-year subscription fees for Medsphere's OpenVista EHR, and then correlates the fees and incentive payments to show the time to recoup the investment.

OpenVista is a commercialized version of the VistA electronic health records system of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Carlsbad, Calif.-based Medsphere changed its business model in May 2008 by releasing the source code on the open source market. The company now generates revenue through support services rather than software license fees. More information is available at
