HEALTHeLINK, a health information exchange serving the greater Buffalo, N.Y. region, has started an advertising campaign to raise consumer awareness of the benefits of enabling providers to access electronic patient data.

The ads encourage consumers to provide consent for their physicians to obtain patient data via the HIE. "We are learning that the more people know about the benefits of the information exchange, the more likely they are to consent to having their health information shared," says Daniel Porreca, executive director of HEALTHeLINK.

Advertisements, with the theme, "Your Body of Information," are airing on various radio stations. They also are appearing on billboards and on The ad campaign will last for three months.
