IGI Health, a vendor of Web portals for health care payers and providers, as well as a health information exchange platform, has named industry veteran Lee Barrett as president and CEO. He succeeds founder Arthur Kapoor, who will become chairman.

Barrett most recently was senior vice president and leader of the health care consulting practice at Virtusa Corp. In a 35-year career, he also has worked at the American Dental Association, Claredi, Medical Banking Exchange, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Covansys, SAIC, Aetna, Travelers, MassMutual and CT Mutual, among others.

Barrett is a past chair of the ASC X12N insurance subcommittee that created what now are the HIPAA transactions, and chaired the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange. He has and will continue to lead the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission.
