Baptist Health Targets Ambulatory Apps

Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Fla., has licensed integrated practice management and electronic health records software for its employed physicians.

The four-hospital delivery system also will offer the software, from Horsham, Pa.-based NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, at "our lowest negotiated price" to affiliated physicians.

Asked if Baptist is offering the software to non-employed physicians at a subsidized price under the Stark Act exemption, senior vice president Kent Skolrood responds via e-mail: "We are looking at options to supplement further financial assistance to make it possible for us to be on the same platform. We're still working out the details with specifics regarding compliance, but we're hoping our assistance will be substantial and helpful to all physicians. Please keep in mind that our assistance is more than just financial here. We already have physicians on this system and are able to provide first-hand knowledge about implementation and be a local resource for physicians who choose to take advantage of the NextGen system."
