HITArkansas, the state's regional extension center, has signed contracts designating ABEL Medical Software and eClinicalWorks Inc. as preferred vendors of electronic health records systems.

Vendors signing the contracts agree to offer providers a pre-negotiated and vetted contract with a negotiated base price. Such contractual arrangements between RECs and vendors have become common as a way to speed the vendor selection process by offering providers a list of finalists.

HITArkansas is in final negotiations with 10 other vendors. They are Allscripts, athenahealth, e-MDs, Ingenix, McKesson, Medical Informatics Engineering, Sage, Sevocity, SOAPware and SuccessEHS.

The REC will assist providers using certified EHRs that are not on the "preferred" list, but the providers will negotiate contract terms and pricing on their own. More information is available at hitarkansas.com.
