The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reminds ambulatory practices of the availability of its free Workflow Assessment for Health IT Toolkit and is working to make it more useful to small- and mid-size physician practices.

The toolkit is designed to help practices better understand the effects of I.T. on workflow while determining system requirements, selecting a vendor, preparing for implementation, and using the technology, according to AHRQ.

Now, the agency will work with 18 practices and two health information technology Regional Extension Centers in Oregon and Wisconsin to conduct field assessments of the toolkit to evaluate its usefulness in smaller practices.

More information on the tool kit is available at http://healthit.ahrq.gov/workflow.
