AHIMA Launches Tools for EHR, Transcription

The American Health Information Management Association has introduced two toolkits to help HIM professionals develop policies for updating electronic health records and transcription practices.

The Copy Functionality Toolkit eBook focuses on developing policies and procedures for copying and pasting information in an EHR. Issues covered including identifying the risks of copy and paste, when it can be appropriately used, and addressing concerns with fraud and abuse billing when duplicate documentation is identified.

The Transcription Toolkit eBook covers recognizing structured vs. unstructured data for an EHR, maintaining the enterprise master patient index, using automated speech recognition and natural language processing, increasing productivity and quality, ensuring information integrity and security, and outsourcing guidelines.
