Fourteen-hospital Mountain States Health Alliance in Johnson City, Tenn., will acquire physician practice management, electronic health records and clinical quality reporting software from Allscripts for 300 employed and affiliated physicians.

The delivery system has 231 employed physicians in 75 offices that will use the new applications. Mountain States also will subsidize, under relaxed federal Stark rules, EHR adoption for the 70 physicians of ETSU Physicians and Associates, a group practice affiliated with East Tennessee State University. Terms of the subsidy were not immediately disclosed.

Mountain States Health Alliance will interface the EHR with its Soarian hospital information system from Siemens Healthcare, Malvern, Pa. The alliance also will link the ambulatory and inpatient systems to CareSpark, a regional health information organization. The alliance is an existing user of older practice management software from Allscripts, as well as the vendor's home care application.
