5 industry and management experts deliver keynotes at HIMSS

HIMSS typically picks keynote speakers that discuss some of the hottest topics in the industry. HIMSS18 is no different. The organization has selected several thought leaders that will open the conference, begin the day’s events and then provide a closing summary of the impact of information technology on patients. Here’s a summary of who will be speaking before thousands of attendees.



Eric Schmidt

Technical Advisor and Former Executive Chairman, Alphabet (parent company of Google)

Technology for a Healthier Future: Modernization, Machine Learning and Moonshots

Machine learning and the cloud are fueling change in how the industry fights disease and improves health for millions of people, but there’s still much untapped potential. During the opening keynote, Eric Schmidt will provide his perspectives on what we can do to speed up the progress and make sure technology is being put to its best use, making life better for people everywhere.

Schmidt is the executive chairman of Alphabet and responsible for the external matters of all of the holding company's businesses, including Google, advising their CEOs and leadership on business and policy issues.



David Shulkin, MD

Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Department of Veterans Affairs

It Takes a Community–Delivering 21st Century Coordinated Care for Those In and Out of Uniform

Shulkin will speak at a session discussing efforts to improve care for active military and veterans who have served.

Shulkin was nominated by President Trump to serve as the ninth Secretary of Veterans Affairs and was confirmed by the United States Senate on Feb. 13, 2017. During his HIMSS18 keynote, he will discuss medical care for veterans, as well as the changes and innovations occurring at the VA.

Before he began his service with VA, Shulkin held numerous chief executive roles at Morristown Medical Center and the Atlantic Health System Accountable Care Organization. He also served as president and CEO of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.



Raquel C. Bono, MD

Vice Admiral; Director, Defense Health Agency

It Takes a Community–Delivering 21st Century Coordinated Care for Those In and Out of Uniform

Bono will speak at a session Friday discussing efforts to improve care for active military and veterans who have served.

Bono leads a joint integrated Combat Support Agency enabling the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps medical services to provide a medically ready force and combatant commands in both peacetime and wartime. During her HIMSS18 keynote, Vice Admiral Bono will discuss advancements in military health to ensure seamless data delivery and care coordination.



Keller Rinaudo

Founder and CEO, Zipline

Innovative Leadership, Robotic Technology and the Future of Healthcare
8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday, March 9

Rinaudo is a robotics and healthcare innovator who is showing the world how drone technology can be used to save lives. During his keynote session, he will describe how to emerge as an innovation leader in a sector dominated by entrenched systems, what technology and robotics mean for the future of healthcare, how to test solutions quickly to effectively maximize output and how to discover simple solutions to complex problems.

Rinaudo is the CEO and co-founder of Zipline, which manages a system of custom robotic aircraft specifically designed to carry life-saving medical supplies to areas in need. The company currently operates in parts of Africa as well as within three U.S. states.
