New federal rules, mandated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, recently were issued that will require health care organizations to report breaches of health information. Separate rules by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal Trade Commission govern different types of breaches and organizations.

Linn Freedman, partner in the national law firm Nixon Peabody, will lay out the rules' requirements and compliance timetables, and offer advice on complying.
