Date Held: November 4, 2009

Join SAS and Health Data Management for a web seminar exploring the results of a study focused on health insurance senior actuarial executives’ attitudes toward the use of analytics. The study specifically addressed the use of analytics in managing and leveraging data, forecasting, trend analysis, reserve management and related matters, as well as their perceptions of these tools.

The study, a joint effort by SAS and Health Data Management, consisted of in-depth telephone interviews with actuarial executives. These executives represent large and mid-sized health plans from across the country.

Topics covered in the web seminar include:

  • The business drivers that are of most immediate concern to actuarial departments –including H1N1 flu management and healthcare reform
  • Initiatives underway to improve forecasting accuracy
  • The data management and analytics tools they use and why
  • Why the premise that predicting the future 'is an art, not a science' is untrue
  • Why some actuarial departments are making improved forecasting accuracy a priority while others are taking baby steps
  • The executives’ sense of where the actuarial function within their health plan is headed

Speaker: Richard J. Pro, M.S., F.A.H.M. Health Plans Principal, Health and Life Sciences Global Practice, SAS
