Bridging the Gap: Unifying Paper Documents with the EMR

Web Seminar Center
Available On-Demand
Date Held: June 4, 2009

This year, the White House has made an unprecedented commitment to healthcare IT. Additionally, hospitals face an increasing need to cut costs, improve patient care and find new efficiency. Consequently, these factors have led healthcare organizations to focus more than ever on introducing an electronic medical record (EMR) as part of the electronic health record (EHR) initiative. Even those facilities on the EMR road, however, often overlook a crucial step: seamlessly incorporating electronic and paper-based patient documentation into the EMR.

In this web seminar, attendees will learn how Citizens Memorial Healthcare solves document-related challenges at its main facility in Bolivar, MO and at offices and clinics spanning five counties, while achieving time and cost savings as part of a broader EMR plan. Areas of focus include:

- How to perform a gap analysis to evaluate current resources and technology needs
- How to perform a process evaluation that determines how document management will be useful
- Selection criteria for a document management system, including functionality, interoperability with other EMR systems and the ability to non-intrusively mirror existing workflows
- Vendor selection criteria, including quality support and project management and the ability to demonstrate return on investment
- How to plan a phased deployment that effectively introduces document management to patient-focused and back office departments
- Tips and tricks for getting users up and running quickly, lessons learned during implementation and expansion

Presenters:
David Tilley, Citizens Memorial Healthcare, Project Lead & Network Administrator
Kim Tilley, Citizens Memorial Healthcare, HCIS Manager
