The Wisconsin government has named the Wisconsin State Health Information Network as the state-designated health information exchange.

WISHIN is not-for-profit organization that the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Wisconsin Medical Society and multi-stakeholders Wisconsin Collaborative for Health Care Quality and Wisconsin Health Information Organization collaborated to form. The Wisconsin Relay of Electronic Data for Health Board, established under a 2009 law to create the statewide HIE plan, recommended WISHIN as the designated entity.

Wisconsin will receive $9.4 million over four years authorized under the HITECH Act to establish a statewide HIE. WISHIN expects to start operations in 2011 and initially will offer lab results and patient treatment summaries.
