Jamestown, N.Y.-based Heritage Ministries Management Co. will use hands-free, voice-based communications systems from Pittsburgh-based Vocollect Healthcare Systems Inc. in three skilled nursing facilities.
Nurses will wear a headset to receive patient instructions and verbally document care as it is given. Speech recognition software will then convert the speech into text reports.
Use of the technology, called AccuNurse, will eliminate the 30 minutes at the end of every shift that nurses spend documenting care, resulting in more accurate documentation and more time providing care, says David Smeltzer, executive director at Heritage Ministries.
The organization will integrate AccuNurse with its clinical and financial information systems. It further expects benefits under a state Medicaid program that reimburses providers for capital investments that improve the quality of care. More information is available at vocollect.com.
