Dell Inc., Motion Computing Inc. and Intel Corp. are joining forces to offer hospitals consulting aimed at optimizing their wireless networks.
The Mobile Point of Care Wireless Assessment consulting service was formed in response to demand from hospitals struggling to set up reliable, secure wireless networks, says August Calhoun, Dells assistant vice president for life sciences. Hospitals want to make sure their wireless networks are well-integrated with their wired networks and secure enough to protect patient data, he says.
The service will analyze:
* potential causes of network
interference;
* wireless network design, including component placement;
and
* growth and maintenance needs.
Round Rock, Texas-based Dell Inc. already resells hand-held computers from Motion Computing, Austin, Texas. Intel Corp., Santa Clara, Calif., makes chips for the devices from both companies. Dell and Motion will provide consultants for the wireless service, while Intel is providing financing and marketing support, Calhoun says.
