The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, an industry advocacy organization, will host a Web seminar on the CORE operating rules for HIPAA claims and related transactions on Sept. 29.

The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, an industry advocacy organization, will host a Web seminar on the CORE operating rules for HIPAA claims and related transactions on Sept. 29.

CORE is the Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange initiative of CAQH, an alliance of industry stakeholders. The Affordable Care Act mandates adoption of a series of operating rules between 2013 and 2016. CORE has spent several years working on rules specified in the reform law and some of the rules currently are being voluntarily adopted.

The Web seminar will describe the mandate and the role of operating rules in simplifying and making the HIPAA transactions more uniform, explain the initial operating rules for eligibility verification and claims status, and demonstrate how use of the rules can enhance efficiency and interoperability.

Speakers include George Arges, senior director of the health data management group at the American Hospital Association; Merri-Lee Stine and Peter Walker, co-chairs of a CORE committee at Aetna; and Denise Oviatt, co-chair of the CORE rules group and payer industry and regulatory affairs analyst at RelayHealth.

The 90-minute seminar starts at 2 pm Eastern and costs $145 for WEDI and CORE members, and $175 for nonmembers. More information is available here.
